Do Acute Traumatic Seizures Recur?

Question: Hi there, I had a bad horse riding accident 5 months ago, and sustained a subarachnoid brain haemorrhage in the right front lobe. this was controlled with out surgical intervention, but was a lot of pain. I had 2 grand mal seizures 24 hours after the accident, 7 hours apart. I was out cold for 45 mins after a 1.15min sezuire each time in ICU. I am now on Keppra 1000mg per day. Finally back at work full time, but struggling big time with side effects, like insomnia, depression, flipping out over small issues and crying along with massive left hip joint pain and neck pain (like an unusual pressure pain ) short term memory loss and absenteeism of my thoughts . My doctor has refered me to my neurologist to begin weaning off the keppra, but I haven't heard about an appointment yet and im due to come off in 3 week. what I am really worried about is that I have heard about ongoing epilepsy after trauma, and as my sezuires were very significant I am really scared they will start again... do you have any information on this for me?

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
most acute traumatic seizures are self limited and do not recur. the delayed seizures after trauma signify an ongoing electrical abnormality. the good news is that most seizures are controlled completely on low dose medication in case you have a recurrence after. your residual symptoms are all very common in traumatic brain injury as is mental fatigue. the neurologist will be able to help you with graded exercises. in the meantime you should learn your mental limit and not push past it. the symptoms occur when your brain needs more blood so pushing through it won't help but rest will. hope this helps. let me know if this applies to your situation

Thanks XXXXXXX I guess with this is just a matter of waiting and seeing what happens, but all the while being careful etc. Like you said with mental fatigue it frustrates me easily, as I was on a very good weight loss path and had lost 20kgs the 6 months prior to falling of my horse, and now not able to exercise like normal (let alone my husband letting me back on my horse) and not being aloud to drive here in new Zealand until I am off the meds for 6 months with no seizures, its taking its toll. There one other thing I have noticed more and more, when I sneeze I get a pain full pins and needles down my left arm and contracts my thumb and little finger. only last a few seconds but is obviously not normal. Do you think that is related to the keppra or my brain injury?

Thanks,XXXX

Brief Answer:
Neither

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

That is most likely a pinched nerve in your neck. when you had the injury you probably herniated a disc which is common
