Do Beta Blockers Reduce The Risk Of Mortality While Suffering From Heart Diseases?

Must be beta blockade
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This is Dr Sameer, Cardiologist.
Their is no such term as bale blockage. You're most probably asking about beta blockage.
Their are receptors on the heart to increase contractility & heart rate which are beta receptors. Drugs blocking these receptors & hence controlling the heart rate are beta blockers. Heart rate control is very important for any cardiac patient.
As you are going for a knee surgery & your ECG/EKG is abnormal, your doctor must have suggested you for a stress echo (DSE), in which we increase the heart rate with drug(acting on beta receptors) to see the effect of increased stress on heart. Beta blocker drugs prevent this action & hence test result. So we ask patients to stop beta blocker at least 48hr before surgery.
I hope it was what you wanted to ask. If you have any more questions, I'll be happy to help.
Thanks
Take care
