Do Bruises On Kneecap Related To Sciatica?

default
Posted on Wed, 13 May 2015
Question: For a few months I've had pain in my legs off and on. I sit to work so I tthink its related. I was told its possibly sciatica and 2 weeks ago was on steroids for the shooting pain's. Today I woke up to tenderness again in the inner right thigh along with hip tenderness and a quarter size bruise developed just above my kneecap.. This is worrysome to me and I wonder if I should see a doctor about it immediately or wait until my follow up Tuesday.

Brief Answer:
Your bruise is not related to sciatica

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and image and I do not think that this bruise is related to your leg pain. Most probably it is either due to steroids or any trivial trauma which you may not have noticed. I can assure you that there is no need to rush to doctor and you can visit her on tuesday. I would to know little detail of your illness so I can offer you some more information.
1.What are your symptoms like nature of leg pain? Aggravating or relieving factors?
2.Are you having Diabetes or Thyroid? Are you taking any other medicines apart from steroids?
3.Did you have MRI of the spine?
Please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
thanks

Great to know it is not an obviously urgent sort of issue. Thank you for your help today, it helps me to relax a bit. To answer your questions:

1. My legs are not swollen or warm, I can walk and lift them but the inner right thigh is quite tender to the touch and my right hip on the outside was catching painfully when I tried to do a butterfly stretch. My left leg is slightly tender too but barely noticeably. If I walk or lay with legs elevated or sit in a warm bath, or if I take ibuprofen I feel a little better. If I sit for too long or bump my thigh or touch it it is tender and uncomfortable. It's not as intense as the shooting pains I had 2 weeks ago but it's still no fun.
2. Ive been tested for Diabetes and for Thyroid issues and I don't have those. A full blood panel was done which only showed my vitamin D was a little low recently. I am done with the corticosteroids, that was finished 2 weeks ago. I am currently on Allegra and Vitamin D and a B-Complex and Probiotics.
3. No I have not had any MRI's done.

Brief Answer:
It can be muscle cramp

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I think you are having muscle cramp in both hip joint. It can be due to exercises you are doing. It can also be due to sciatica which is recovering. I would suggest you to avoid any stretching exercises for some time. I have following suggestions for you.
1.Hot water fomentation
2.Muscle relaxant like Myoril or Myospaz one daily.
3.Tablet Brufen twice daily.
I hope this will recover in seven to eight days. Continue your B complex and other medicines. I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other follow up questions.
thanks
