Posted on Wed, 17 Feb 2016
Question: Hi Doctor,

I am suffering from neurosis health anxiety with depressiveness as diagnozed by psychologist.

My question today is sometimes when we tell lies, we get a little tensed, and tend to loose eye contact at that moment when we tell a lie. Sometimes when I hide personnel things with others, i get a little tensed and loose eye contact. Is this a sign of psychosis or is it just a normal human behavior which comes under neurosis? Kindly explain.

Regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
It is normal human behavior

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us.

When person tells lie autonomic system of the body disregulated and some chances in facial expression and body language which are observable by others as well as some changes inside body like in heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, temperature, sweating etc. occur. This is completely normal physiological phenomenon. It is not at all psychosis.

Whatever behavior you have mentioned while hiding some things from others is normal behavior. When it is frequent and exaggerated and affecting person's life then it can be part of neurosis but it is not at all psychosis.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
