Do Prolonged Intake Of Antibiotics Cause Numbness In Body With Weakness?
Question: I've had strep throat since Christmas eve and I'm on the fourth round of antibiotics now (30 erythro-base 250mg). The strep test came back positive everytime. I don't have mono. Now I'm feeling numbness throughout my body, along with weakness and some dizziness. Is this a result of taking antibiotics for too long? Also, why won't the strep go away? I have no known allergies.

Dear MADAM,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Well looking into your problem I will tell you that it is not uncommon to have prolonged streptococcal infection . I will advise you to get a throat swab and get it tested for culture sensitivity so that the antibiotic which has the potential to treat the infection can be started.
Yes this can be the result of prolonged antibiotics . Please start a multivitamin tablet along with it after consulting your treating doctor , it will help in this issue and treat your symptoms of dizziness and numbness .
Take care.

The thing is I've been eating really balanced home cooked meals (it's not hard to eat from strep anymore, it's just swollen and the test was positive) so I wouldn't think I'm missing any vitamins. The only thing i haven't been eating too much of is fruit because of the acid. I'm also constantly drinking water and still feeling thirsty. It's making me nervous.

Dear Madam,
Its good that you are eating home cooked food but it is not possible to replenish everything by what we eat so generally multivitamin supplementation is generally advisable whenever you are taking antibiotics . You should take a minimum of 8 -10 glasses of water everyday to keep your self hydrated specially during infection .
