Does Amoxicillin Help Cure Sinus Infection?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Aug 2017
Question: I was told to take amoxicillin for possible sinus infection, but now after several days, my nose is running constantly and am sneezing as if a regular cold, should I also take a cold medicine to stop runny nose or will the amoxicillin take care of it?

Brief Answer:
Considerations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the query.

I would finish the course of amoxicillin as prescribed by your doctor.

As for the runny nose - would recommend you try an over the counter nasal spray such as Flonase or Nasonex as these may really help with the inflammation and drainage.

Also you could take Claritin or Zyrtec once a day - these are antiallergy meds that also may help slow down the drainage symptoms.

Thabks again for sending the query.

Sincerely,

Dr Galamaga
