Does Amoxicillin Help In Treating Salmonella Infection?
Question: Hi.
My son is on amoxicillin for an ear infection.
Tonight my husband made some chicken and served some to our son then preceded to cut the rest of the chicken only to discover it was still slightly pink in the middle!
My son had taken just one bite of chicken before he discovered this and the pieces on his plate, upon further inspection, did look like they were fully cooked. But im still worried about salmonella!
Hes been on amoxicillin for 6 days and has 1 day left (he takes 1 tsp. 2 times per day).
I was reading that amoxicilin can actually be used to treat salmonella -- so my question is, since he already has amoxicillin in his system -- would that help fight off any salmonella bacteria that he may have ingested from that one bite of chicken?

Brief Answer:
Yes!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about what happened. Chicken sold on the markets is inspected and most is not contaminated. Though contamination does exist, it is a rare occurrence than a common observation. With him being on amoxicillin, there is nothing else to be afraid of even if there were salmonella species on the chicken. Amoxicillin would have addressed this already.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
