Brief Answer:
Following safe cold medicines for Parkinson/hypertensive patients...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I understand your concern.

It is true that there are some over the counter cold medicines that should not be taken along with Parkinson's disease medications as in your husband's case.

So, when choosing a cough medicine, try to choose the one which does not have dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant.

Other ingredients found in over the counter cold medicines are pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine which can be used.
Mucolytics like guaifenesin are considered safe if combined with meds as in your husband's case as well as antihistamines like diphenhydramine and chlorpheniramine/cetirizine or loratadine.

So, what I recommend is to read the leaflet for the ingredients inside the cold medicine and choose the one which has the ingredients which are considered safe as mentioned above.

Hope this helps.

Would it be possible for you to name specific over the counter meds I can use? The pharamist was no help at all.

Brief Answer:
Benadryl cold or Claritin-D and guaifenesin

Detailed Answer:
Hi back dear XXXXXXX

Ok, then, you are asking about a brand name of cold medicine in your location (Woodbridge, XXXXXXX US I believe).

I did some research, and you can ask for:
- Benadryl cold (a combination of acetaminophen+diphenhydramine+pseudoephedrine)
- Claritin-D (a combination of loratadine+pseudoephedrine)
- guaifenesin (brand name for Duratuss G or just ask for guaifenesin)

Hope that helps. Wish fast recovery.
