Does Azithromycin Interact With Clindamycin?

default
Posted on Sat, 3 Sep 2016
Question: I had a tooth extracted 42 hours ago that was cracked. It is tooth 16. There is a small wisdom tooth behind where 16 was removed. I had a sinus infection at time the tooth was removed and I was on Azithromycin 250. The dentist gave me a script for Clindamycin 150 MG. Since I was on my third day of Azithromycin 250 I didn't take the Clindamycin 150. I was going to take Clindamycin 150 4 times a day after the 6th pill of Azithromycin 250 which be done in 24 hours. My problem is I had pain at the extraction site for the first 24 hours then no pain. Then the pain came back this morning in jaw area of the # 16 area. I don't feel a dry socket. It feels like it is clotted. However, food may have gotten in the clot? I started up the pain med again this morning. I thought that since the pain came back it maybe infected. Should I start the Clindamycin 150 now? This will cause a one day overlap of both meds. I didn't think to tell my dentist that I was on Azithromycin 250 at the time of the extraction for a sinus infection.

Brief Answer:
No harm if both are taken today

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
It is possible that there is an infection. There is no adverse interaction between Azithromycin and Clindamycin. So there is no harm if both are taken together today and you continue with only the Clindamycin tomorrow.

Wish you a quick recovery.
