Posted on Sat, 13 Aug 2016
Question: Dear Doctor,

I am a 34 year old male presently residing in Abu Dhabi and having a sedentry work culture.

My BMI is 34 (obesity) and i was with a doctor on 16th July due to following two reasons.

(1) Pre Hypertension (145/97 with pulse 97)
(2) Grade 1 Fatty Liver due to alcohol abuse

My doctor (Gastroenterologist) suggested me to take CONCOR COR 2.5mg once daily for 3 months and URSOFALK 250 mg twice daily for 3 months.

My present symptom is that i use to get Very Dry Mouth, urge to drink lot of water, Extreme Dizzy Feeling, and slight shaking in my hand, 5 minutes after i take Concor Cor.

My Questions:

(1) Does Concor Cor causes Dry Mouth?

(2) Is there any alternative to be used if Concor is causing Dry Mouth.

(3) Will taking multivitamin solve the issue of Dry Mouth?

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

What you are experiencing are well known side effects of bisoprolol (concor) use especially dry mouth, dizziness and hand shaking.

Since you are using concor for stabilising your BP you may switch from betablockers (concor) to other antihypertensive agents.

If you were my patients I would recommend switching to Tritace (ramipril) instead of Concor. However since this is a medication you should discuss with your doctor.

Using multivitamins together with Concor decrease the effects of it (including effects on BP and side effects) contributing so on lessening of dry mouth. On the other hand drinking alcohol increase Concor effects worsening your symptoms.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

Dear Doctor,

Many thanks for your reply.

(1) Can i take Multivitamin along with Concor in the morning inorder to reduce the dryness of mouth and dizziness which lasts till afternoon lunch time.

(2) Kindly suggest a good multivitamin, do you have any idea about "Xtend Life Total Balance - Men)?

(3) Can i take Omega 3 + CoQ10 for cardiac health along with Concor in the morning?

(4) My GP has advised me to take Euthyrox 25mg, and URSOFALK 250 mg twice daily for Grade 1 Fatty Liver. Does these medicinces can cause any adverse reaction with taken with Concor Cor

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

As i said above you should use multivitamins, omefa fish oil and CoQ 10 to reduce Concor side effects. To do so you should take them all together in the morning.

There are plenty multivitamins in the market and Xtend life balance for man is a good choice and you may use it.

There are no interaction between Concor and Euthyrox or Ursofalk.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
