How Does Atenolol Differ From Bisoprolol?
Bisoprolol is better than Atenolol
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome.
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
Atenolol & bisoprolol both are a category of drug called as beta blocker.
Atenolol is not cardio selective but bisoprolol is highly cardio selective i.e. it specifically blocks the receptor on the heart to lower the heart rate and bp. Atenolol has been a drug which is given since ages for bp but it is now being replaced and its use for bp has declined.
In fact for your knowledge, as per the latest guidelines to treat bp, beta blocker (Atenolol or bisoprolol) are no longer the first line therapy. But as you are going good with it, I'll recommend you to continue it.
You can try bisoprolol for few days. If it does not suit you, you can switch back to Atenolol.
If 25mg of Atenolol is not available, you can take 50mg and take half tablet of it.
Thanks & take care.
