Question: I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor and after MRI and blood exam showing high levels of
prolactin.
The doctor prescribed me with
bromocriptine 2.5mg a day for two weeks the to 5. Then when I went up to 10, after the second night of taking it I woke up with a
severe headache as if my head was going to explode..or something being pulled really hard. It was horrible. I tried to sleep it off but about 30 mins later I had another severe hit. I ended up going to the ER where they performed a CT and
Lumbar puncture. They said the test came out good, but i might get a side effect from the lumbar. I did it was a bad headache and a feeling imbalance. I went back they did a blood patch and that headache went away but my original headache came back so I was sent to get an MRI and was told that everything look fine...no sign of possible
stroke or other issues. I was told to stop the bromocriptine and go to
cabergoline but had other side effects from that that I was uncomfortable so the doctor decided to put me back on the bromocriptine....But I have this fear of taking it. The headache was so severe that I am spooked. I read online that bromocriptine can lead to hemorrhaging or other potential fatal issues. When I was on the 2.5 and 5 I had no
headaches. But once I was put on 10 its when it started. So my question is if I go with the doctors prescribed method of only going up to 5 will I still be at risk of those headaches and potential issues that come from that. THank you in advance for any advice given
