I consulted neurologist and my headache frequency came down but after reducing medications I am getting severe headaches. Is there is any reason that I am listening daily files though headphones in my job is the cause for headaches? please suggest me what to do for complete cure of severe tension headaches.

Hello,

Your symptoms are indicative of chronic stress that is causing you headache. You are suggested to take breaks between work. Relax and give your head a little relief. A transcriptionist job is strenuous. Take food in time, do not skip meals. Stay well hydrated. Consume enough water and fluids everyday. Dehydration and hunger can trigger tension headache or migraine. Identify the triggers and keep yourself away from it.

Avoid exposure to bright light, prefer working in a dimly lighted room with air conditioner on. Do not unnecessarily stress, avoid the intake of alcohol, smoking or drugs. Avoid food that may trigger headache like oily food, junk food, food with strong smell, food that causes gas, etc. Avoid constipation, take fiber rich diet. Constipation and low sugar level also triggers headache. Take daily bath.

If you normally consume caffeine in coffee or tea, stopping intake abruptly may trigger a migraine or tension headache. Withdrawal should always be gradual. Take at least 8 hours of sleep. Lack of sleep causes headache. Tension headache is relieved by doing head and back exercises.

Tension headache will go away after taking proper rest and following the instructions stated above. You can take combination medications like aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol). Taking triptans and amitriptyline are helpful. However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get CT or MRI done to rule out serious causes of head ache like tumor, etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
