Does GERD Cause Thyroid Dysfunction?
Question: Hi I am wondering if my GERD and Hiatal Hernia could be affecting my thyroid. I have been having problems with cold (especially in hands and feet) as well as fatigue lately but my blood work on my thyroid was in normal ranges. Is blood work definitive for thyroid problems? Or are there other tests that could be run to rule that out? Thank you for your time.
Brief Answer:
Thyroid dysfunction
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
GERD and Hiatus hernia has no direct relation with thyroid function. Cold extremities and body are one of the features of hypothyroidism. However, these symptoms are not exclusive to thyroid and is also seen in number of other disorders. If your TSH and Free T4 was normal, then there is no need to do any other tests to rule out thyroid dysfunction. These tests are very good to rule out thyroid dysfunction.
