Brief Answer: It is an episode of infective diarrhoea Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear XXXX Its definitely not Irritable bowel syndrome. The history is of very short duration and is likely to be due to Acute Gastro-enteritis. In the absence of blood/mucous in stools and absence of fever its unlikely to be of major concern. I would advise you the following 1. Ensure good hydration: WHO recommended Oral Rehydration solution(ORS), fruit juice, tender coconut water. Avoid excessive consumption of plain water, as it will lead to electrolyte disturbance 2. Anti-spasmodics: Drotaverine thrice a day tablet will provide the much needed relief from cramps. 3. Anti-motility drugs: If there is no fever, no blood/mucous in stool anti-motility drug like Loperamide 4 mg taken once and 2 mg after every loose stools( not to exceed 16 mg of Loperamide in a day) 4. Maintain nutrition: soft diet, yoghurt, curds will be beneficial 5. Probiotic: Probiotic containing lactobacillus wil be beneficial. Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you. Take care Best regards Dr Deepak Kishore MBBS,MS,MCH Consultant Surgeon
