Does Ibuprofen Help Reduce Chronic Pain?

default
Posted on Sat, 12 Dec 2015
Question: Is taking 10-20mg of norco 10/325 better for your health than taking 2400 mg of ibuprofen. I have had chronic pain for 5 years and my doctor has not said anything about long term effects. I recently stopped taking my norco, however I'm having to take 2400mg of ibuprofen daily as well as 1000mg of ibuprofen? I'm just trying to decide which is better for long term health. Also, how does tramadol compare with the above?

Brief Answer:
I would say Ibuprofen is better, since it doesn't cause dependence.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question,

I read it carefully and understand your concern.

It is difficult to compare the 3 medicines, because they are different types. I will tell you the side effects they have, and you decide for yourself which you want to use.

Norco, has not many side effects but it has a component that causes dependence. It has the same pain reliever effect as Ibuprofen though.
On the other side Ibuprofen is a good medicine, but it gives stomach problems. If you have no problems with your stomach then its safe to use it, better then Norco.

I would not advice Tramadol, unless if the other medicines do not help you. But, comparing side effects, it has a lot more then the other two, and gives dependence.

So, to summarize, if I was your caring doctor, and if you have no problems with stomach, and if Ibuprofen helps you with the pain, I would say continue using it.

Hope this is helpful.

Let me know if you need more clarifications.
