Does Lamictal Interact With Trileptal?

Consultation
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.
There is no serious contraindication or interaction between progesterone, Lamictal, and Trileptal. They can sometimes interact in a minor way to change each others' concentration in the blood, but this is not a reason not to use them together.

They do not cancel each other. They have small effects, if any, on blood levels. I believe oral contraceptives are effective, so you might want to consider these instead of progesterone if you are especially concerned.

Let me ensure I'm being clear. I started processing sexual abuse from my childhood. During my trauma treatment my dr started me on Lamictal and Trileptal to help with the depression and anxiety I was experiencing. I also had on0set PMDD, I would imagine related to dealing with "sexual abuse". The combination of the two has been overwhelming as I have always been a highly successful business woman. In treating these three symptoms PTSD-anxiety and depression, and PMDD what could be the best way to use these medications together. In reading on-line, and also the feedback from the pharmacist, they state they I would need to double my prescription of trileptal and lamictal if I use birth control. If I need to up the dose (if on birth control) I really need to understand that as when I haven't had a full dose I suffer severe side effects. Thank you!

Detailed Answer:
I disagree with the pharmacist that you would need to double the dose. I would talk with your prescribing doctor about their opinion on the matter. My understanding is that the dose would likely not need to be changed, but to monitor this you would first need to get blood levels of the medication after starting the progesterone.

Detailed Answer:
The other doctor and I are in agreement that the levels would be changed. However, I do not believe this should influence treatment. Simply take all the medications and check their blood levels in a couple weeks, and make adjustments as indicated.
