Does Lexapro Interact With Ibuprofen?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 May 2016
Question: I am taking Lexapro MG, and have just been involved in a serious high speed MVA where I have multiple fractures. The ED supplied me with many analgesics including Endone and Oxycontin. Another is Brufen 400MG. My GP has just stopped this med, (Brufen)even though it has been most effective for my pain relief because I am on Lexapro. I am not coping with pain releif since the brufen was stopped. Do I need to get a secon opinion?

Brief Answer:
risk of interaction

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to want to use the medication that is working most effectively but there is a risk of interaction between lexapro and brufen (ibuprofen).

Both of these drugs increase the toxicity or potential side effects of each other. There is increased risk of bleeding because the lexapro increases the risk of the brufen affecting the stomach.

This is true for any of the NSAIDS (brufen, naproxen, voltaren, celebrex) , none are recommended along with lexapro.

This potential problem is the reason that your doctor stopped the brufen.

I hope this helps , feel free to ask any other questions
