Brief Answer:
Methyl prednisolone is a steroid and not recommended for self treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.'

1. Methyl prednisolone is a steroid preparation and to be taken only as recommended by your doctor. Taking steroids causes side effects and therefore to be taken on prescription and only under medical supervision.

2. If you have a suspected tooth abscess then please consult your dentist and take a short course of antibiotics. Taking methyl prednisolone might reduce the pain for some time but infection will proceed and will not get treated. It might also worsen your problems.

3. For the pain you might take non steroidal anti inflammatory medicines which are available over the counter.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
