Brief Answer:
it is one of medications that is used if the diverticula are inflamed

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Metronidazole is one of the medications that is used when the diverticula are inflamed or infected, this is called diverticulitis.

It is normally used in combination with other antibiotics however such as ciprofloxacin or trimethoprim/sulfamethozole. There are some antibiotics that are used on their own with diverticulitis but this is not one of them.

Many persons with diverticular disease may not have any symptoms but if you are having symptoms of inflammation then other aspects of treatment include a clear liquid diet.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
