Question: I live with chronic pain and have had multiple surgeries. I usually take 5 m of oxycodone when I get up in the morning. About 4 hours later I take the first of several medications for hypertension, hydrochlorothiiazide 12.5 mg. within 30 minutes I am so sleepy and can hardly keep my eyes open . This last for about 4 hours . Is there a interactions between the 2 medications ?

Brief Answer:
Considerations.

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

There are no direct interactions with these two medications which would contribute to increased in sleepiness.

One possibility would be that the blood pressure medication causes a drop in your overall blood pressure for the several hours after you take the medication which could cause you to feel very fatigued and sleepy.

You might consider taking the blood pressure medication at bedtime to see if you feel better during the day as an alternative.

thank you again for sending your question. I hope my considerations will help you eventually feel better without the difficult do you have experienced with daytime sleepiness.

Sincerely,

Dr Galamaga
