Does Prozac Cause Depression?
Question: Hi! I have been taking Prozac 10 mg now for 3 weeks. I find when I take it in the morning it is actually making depression worse. I am taking 2 ½ mg of Ativan to counteract the depression as this seems to help and makes me more alert.
Could I please have your opinion as to whether you feel I should give it longer?
Thanks very much

Brief Answer:
Ask your psychiatrist to reconsider the medications.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic.
Prozac is unlikely to make your depression worse. But it is possible that your depression is under-treated. I would not suggest you to wait longer or to try and balance it with Ativan. Rather, I would suggest you to get in touch with your psychiatrist who could carefully evaluate you and make suitable dosage modifications or may prescribe alternative medications. In any case, I would strongly insist that you do not self-medicate. You need to remain under the periodic follow-up of your psychiatrist.
