Does Septra Interact With Flecainide?
Question: what antibiotics are safe with flecanide? I know the macrocodes cannot be used, what about peniclilin, cephalosporin, septra?
Brief Answer:
Septra could cause problems
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
your doctor should check for interactions for the specific antibiotic that's going to be prescribed but I can tell you that penicillin V and cefaclor (cephalosporin) can be safely used concurrently with flecainide. Septra may sometimes (not so often and not at the commonly used doses) prolong the QT interval which predisposes to serious arrhythmias. The chances of a serious arrhythmia with flecainide and septra are very low but there is some minor risk.
I hope you find my comments helpful!
You can contact me again, if you'd like any clarification or further information.
Kind Regards!
