Does Solian Cause Obsessive Compulsive Symptoms?
That is due to 5 HT receptor antagonism
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic again.
I agree with you that solian causes obsessive compulsive symptoms at higher doses. The exact reason is not known but it is hypothesized that it acts as an antagonist of serotonin receptors (5HT-2b and 5HT-7). This is hypothesized that OCD occurs due to serotonin deficiency in certain area of brain and that is the reason serotonergic medicines(SSRI group of medicine) are used for the treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder and phobia.
You might be knowing that all new generation of antipsychotics (includes amisulpiride) act on both dopamine and serotonin receptor antagonist and any of the medication can increase your OC symptoms, phobia and strange fears.
Let me tell you that this side effect is quite rare of amisulpiride and before making any conclusion we need to look for other causes of OCD, phobia and fears.
In case you developed these symptoms first time following increase of dose of solian to 200 mg than it is quite possible that solian is causing factor for your OCD and phobic symptoms. If that is the case planning to switch with different antipsychotic preferably first generation will suffice to control your OCD symptoms. In case withdrawal of solian is not possible the dose of Lexapro can be increased.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
Wish you a good health
