Does Tylenol Help Cure Swelling And Pain In The Knuckles?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Aug 2017
Question: I cut my knuckle, maybe to the bone, about 13 hours ago. I cleaned, bandaged, elevated it. I'm pretty sure I've had my tetnus shot in last 5 years, but definitely in last 10. It's very sore, and swollen, but not warm. Can I just continue home treatment with Tylenol for pain (I haven't taken anything yet) and can I ice it?

Brief Answer:
I suggest Visit to ER as explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
In my opinion two things need to be checked
1. Depth and length of cut- If it is a deep cut more than 5 mm long then it is better to have it stitched , else it will heal with a bad scar , damaging the knuckle.
2. You have to assess the finger function to see if any tendon is damaged - it can be done only by an expert.
So My suggestion is that you visit ER for proper w=assessment and treatment.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
