Posted on Mon, 28 Nov 2016
Question: we are in receipt of claim under insurance policy where pre-existing ailment and its complications are not covered. Insured is hospitalised for small bowel obstruction and history of cholecystectomy in past. Can we correlate current small bowel obstruction as a complication of previous cholecystectomy (2011)
if not what could be the reason for current condition

Brief Answer:
If Small bowel obstruction is recent, unlikely to be due to Cholecystectomy

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/66 - small bowel obstruction, HT, DM - cholecystectomy in 2011 - wants to know whether current small bowel obstruction can be correlated with to previous cholecystectomy... Read the reports you have provided.
It is almost 5 years since cholecystectomy and if the complications of due to these had to occur they would have occurred in the immediate post-operative period or within the first few weeks only.
If the small bowel is a recent problems, then it is unlikely to be due to cholecystectomy in 2011.
