Does A Lipoma Convert Into Melanoma?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014
Question: My husband had what I believe was diagnosed as a lipoma in his breast about 1.5 years ago. (a biopsy was done) 2 days ago, he noticed that the lump is much larger and there is a new mole on the nipple that is irregular in shape and mostly black and slightly raised. The lump is directly under the nipple and about 2 inches by 1 inch. I'm trying to ascertain whether the lump is related to the new irregular shaped mole...Will go to the dermatologist, but do men get mastitis and if so, is it usually r/t breast cancer? Also could a melanoma grow into the lipoma or gynecomastia tissue and cause the tenderness and swelling?

Brief Answer: liposarcoma Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for the query. Lipoma cannot convert in melanoma. However it can convert in liposarcoma, a cancerous condition and also melanoma may exist together with liposarcoma. Yes mastitis can develop even in males. It is very important for me to see the lesions. Can you please upload a photograph of the lesion. This will help me in giving a closer diagnosis and better way of management. There is an option to upload photo on right side of query page. Please utilize it. Waiting for your response. Thank you

Brief Answer: pagets disease Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for the photographs and sorry for delay in reply. There is XXXXXXX retraction of nipple when compared to opposite side. Also instead of melanoma I think it's pagets disease. Both conditions suggest malignancy. Please get a true cut biopsy done at the earliest to rule out malignancy. An urgent appointment is must. Let me know if you have any other doubts. Thank you

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX I found out that the lump biopsy rendered about 1.5 years ago was a "fibroadenoma" He has an appointment with a general surgeon, but I am reading that even if pathology says its a fibroadenoma then to get another pathology report...that XXXXXXX should not get that diagnosis. Based on the previous diagnosis,"fibroadenoma" (that I didn't initially have for you), do you still think its Pagets or something else. (I know regardless, it needs to be removed-I'm just hoping it has not grown outside of the breast cavity... Apparently the mole-looking thing was a scab on top of the nipple/the Dermatologist he saw today was less concerned with that, and more about the lump...

Brief Answer: pagets can be ruled out Detailed Answer: Hello If the biopsy says fibroadenoma, we can rule out pagets. Don't worry fibroadenoma is not a XXXXXXX condition and can be easily removed. It remains confined to breast cavity. Its good that the superficial lesion was a scab. Just relax he will soon recover. Thank you
