Does Bacterial Eye Infections Cause Gooey And Water Discharge?
detailed below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I read carefully your query.
Usually a bacterial eye infection causes a sticky, yellow or greenish eye discharge in the corner of the eye. This because the bacteria that can cause an eye infection ,cause the formation of pus that is yellow-green and thick (not watery). In this case there is only little discharge that most commonly is noticed like some crusting of the eyelashes in the morning. It doesn't really cause a watery discharge.
If you have a watery eye discharge ,than most like the cause of the conjunctivitis is an allergic reaction or a viral infection.
If the cause is allergy ,you also would have itchiness on eyes, burning ,tearing , a runny nose ,sneezing etc.
If the cause is a viral infection ,you would have watery eyes, runny nose, sore throat etc.(all the symptoms of a viral infection).
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any question.
Kind regards,

Hello again.
It can be a bacterial conjunctivitis.
I would suggest to consult a physician and get examined. If the doctor after examination has doubts about the cause of the inflammation ,he may take a sample of the discharge and send it to get examined.
If the cause of conjunctivitis is bacterial ,you will need a topical antibiotic.
Take care.
