Does Fluid Retention In Knee Resolve By Itself Over Time?

Question: I'm suffering from knee pain. I was told Tuesday that I have fluid on my knee, and was prescribed a Med Pak to see if it might take care of the problem. I am applying warm compresses to the area, but haven't gotten much pain relief. I was given an injection (in my hip) for inflammation. Is this something that will eventually heal without having to have the fluid drained from the knee?

You seem to be suffering from arthritis of the hip and knee.

The steroid shot should help with the pain and inflammation.

This usually does not get better since it is a degenerative condition.

You can get an Xray to look for the extent of arthritis.

Other options available is Hyaluronic acid injection into the knee for moderate arthritis. Arthroscopic debridement is also helpful in cleaning up the joint in arthritis.

The best treatment is totally knee replacement to be free of the pain and restriction of movement.
