Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi! My name is Jaime , I´m 45 years old, 187.5 lb and 5.51 ft and I suffer Knee ache specially when raising stairs and when walking while pressing my heels. I´ve been detected with uric acid in blood. My last xray on knees shows little calcifications but the bones seems healthy. I like to jog and now I Stop to avoid agravaiting my knee pain. Can I jog again? thanks
I did read about your knee calcifications and discomfort, and this is a good sign of early arthritic changes occurring in the joint. In your case if you are an avid jogger, overuse if the knee is likely contributing to this. No this is a little tricky, so I DO NOT encourage you to stop jogging that is not the best approach and we always encourage continual use of the arthritic joint.
Using a NEOPRENEknee brace will help and even using VOLTAREN GEL or NAPROSYN will help. There are injections into the knee joint called SYNVISC that are also useful but do not stop jogging, that is still beneficial. Also, make sure you have good athletic shoes as well. Ice after jogging is somewhat useful too, if you notice a lot of swelling.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
