Question: My doctor prescribed IC Cevimeline Hcl for Dryness of my throat, etc. How does it work? After I read some possible side effects, I am reluctant to take it. I am

taking Paroxitine for effects from an acci-dent, (Brain trauma nearly twenty years ago) and must continue taking it, even though I'VE TRIED to get off it under two different Doctors. The medicine is 20 mil. I also take 20 mil. of OMEPROZOLE, BUT FOR SHORT PERIODS AT A TIME. LATELY, AN ENT Doctor
. SAYS MYTHROAT SHOWS THAT I need to take it every day ...silent reflux, possibly, but I seldom feel
reflux symptoms. Taking both of these last two medications every day, leave me a little light-headed. Will the IC Cevimeline HCL intensify this effect? I am being diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome and also

sleep with my mouth open, even though I just started using a C-PAP machine two months ago . The Dryness of my mouth is beginning to get to me and also affect my teeth. I'm glad I wrote my concerns to you, because it's been a very confusing week trying to get my thoughts together.
My main question is Will the IC CEVIMELINE HCL 30 MG possibly cause me much more dizziness if I take it with the other two meds? I've only taken two tablets (1 yesterday, and 1 this morning. I've not taken the other two meds with it , nor did I take the other two doses of the Civimeline, yesterday as prescribed by the doctor .After I took the first dose, I knew it might affect my driving because of the effect I was feeling.)
Please help me sort out my situation. XXXXXXX XXXX age81

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com

I am Dr.Bruno Mascarenhas. I have read your question with care and understand your concerns. Let me try to help you by answer your questions one by one

Your doctor has prescribed IC Cevimeline Hcl for Dryness of my throat, etc. and your first question is "How does it work?"
Cevimeline works by activating the M3 receptors of the parasympathetic nervous system. Hence Salivary Glands are stimulated and they secrete more saliva. This solves the problem of dry mouth of Sjogren's syndrome.

The common side effects of Cevimeline are
1. Difficulty breathing
2. Fast heartbeat
3. Itching
4. Chest pain
5. Dizziness, Fainting or light-headedness when getting up from a lying or a sitting position
6. Swelling of gums or tongue

Your main question is "Will the IC CEVIMELINE HCL 30 MG possibly cause me much more dizziness if I take it with the other two meds?"

There have been no published reports till date which specifically mention that Cevimeline causes much more dizziness when taken along with Paroxitine or Omeprazole

So you can continue to take these drugs as recommended by your doctor

Hope you found the answer helpful.

If you need any clarification / have doubts / have additional questions / have follow up questions, then please do not hesitate in asking again. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
