Does Metabolic Syndrome Associated With Seroquel Go Away When Discontinuing Medication?
Question: Hello, does metabolic syndrome associated with seroquel go away when you discontinue the medication? I am slowly going down and am currently at 100 mgs. I have gained weight on this med and have developed the above. I've read conflicting reports on this. I am 50 years old.

Seroquel is Quetiapine and the drug belongs to Second Generation Antipsychotic drugs. The drug is known to cause sedation, increased appetite, weight gain, hyperglycaemia, hyperlipidemia etc side effects. Weight gain and metabolic syndrome is commonly seen in high doses.
The metabolic syndrome occur with high doses and on reducing the doses or on stopping the drug the side effects start reversing. Only in some rare individuals they persist. Increased weight respond to exercise. Brisk walking will help to improve the symptoms. Take plenty of vegetables and food rich in proteins and complex carbs and low in fats.
If altered lipid profile persist then Atorvastatin or Orlistat can help to improve the conditions. Discuss with your doctor for detailed prescription of the drug.
