Does Mould Intoxication Lead To Brain Fog, Muscle Pain And Nausea?

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Jun 2016
Question: Hi. I had a really bad chest infection 2 months ago and thought it was from my daughters friend. I have realised at the same time I was cleaning mould of a back if a cabinet and breathed in dust. Not long after I had pins and needles, parathesia, nausea, brain fog. I put this down to stress and anxiety as was diagnosed with ibs at same time and had leg pain. I now have the leg pains but nothing else my leg muscles ache and arm muscles. All blood clear. Pysio says it is muscular and sending me for acupuncture. I do have tingling in feet. Am waiting for back xray. My concern is could this be all caused from mould. I am worried as I have read it can do neurological damage?

Brief Answer:
Not likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I understand your concern well but straightforward,I want to reassure here that these are not the sort of neurological symptoms(muscles ache and tingling in feet-as you are having),one would get with mould intoxication.
Fungal are known to cause intracranial infections like meningitis and abscess. However, they are mostly observed in immunodeficient symptoms.

For now,be assured that this is not mould.

Hope that helps. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.

Thank you. I did read Mytosis? can be caused by a bacterial infection. Could this be a cause of my muscle pains. I am worried that the mould had damaged my muscles in some way! Would mytosis be seen in a fbc. My anxiety is really high at the moment and thinking I have damaged myself by breathing in the toxins from mould
I also wondered that at the time of the chest infection i had nausea and brain fog and dizziness. Could anything have changed in my brain to cause the symptoms I'm having. As I'm worried about mnd. Could the toxin inhalation alter anything in your brain

Brief Answer:
Not likely to be myositis or MND.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

This is not likely to be myositis and obviously is not,MND. Myositis can present with muscle pain but there are no predisposing conditions in your case. Mould intoxication will not result in this presentation.
Nausea and dizziness for a short duration does not mean that there is something pathological in brain.
My sincere suggestion for you is to get reassured about yourself, however,if you are excessively worried-you should go to a physician for physical examination.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Thank you. Just worried as leg muscles seem to be getting weaker and more achy. Why do you not think mnd? Could it be fibro do you think?

Answered by Dr. Ajay Panwar (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Its not MND or Fibromyalgia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

This lacks the core clinical features of MND-wasting,prominent weakness and fasciculations. So,it is not MND.

Likewise,it does not fall under the sphere of core features of Fibromyalgia.Just leg muscles pain, don't make the diagnosis as Fibromyalgia.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.

Thank you. I have aches in arms too, stiffness, problems sleeping. Could it be fibro?

Can you have menagitus without knowing it?

Answered by Dr. Ajay Panwar (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
It's not meningitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

No,you can't have meningitis without knowing it.Its a serious disease with severe manifestations.

ACR (Americal college of Rheumatology) criteria for Fibromyalgia needs to be fulfilled for diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. If you suspect and want to get evaluated for the same, you should get yourself physically examined by a Rheumatologist or a neurologist.

Hope that helps. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Brief Answer:
Please upload your MRI scan CD.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

Though it is unlikely that disc issues will result in symmetrical leg pains, still,I would be in a better position to opine on this after having a look at your spine imaging.

Please upload your MRI Spine CD on google drive and share the link here in the follow-up question,so that I can download it and have a look at your MRI.

Constipation and rectocele should not be the cause.

Thank you. I had xray not mri and unfortunately doc has it. Doc did not think it would cause pains either

I am still concerned by the mould inhalation as happened at same time. I have also been diagnosed with ibs

I am worried the mould has caused all this as had neurological symtoms at same time. And am worried it got into my blood stream.
My doctor said mould would not have done the damage but when you read on Google it can cause neuroligical problems and if severe motor problems.

I was diagnosed with chronic bronchitus at same time but went for xray and it was clear.

One doctor said it was all anxiety. My physio said muscular. After all the tingling in my feet and the weird sensations in my legs I feel my muscles are shutting down. No doctor seems concerned or in referring me to a neurologist

Brief Answer:
Anxiety,indeed,can be the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

As already discussed,I reiterate that it is neither a mould toxicity and nor a MND.
You just need to be reassured.
If you are still concerned, please visit a neurologist in person for examination.
