Do Rectocele And Cystocele Occur After Multiple Pregnancies?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Nov 2017
Question: Hi there,

I have a few questions regarding prolapse. Before having a c section with my 4th child recently, I had a 1st degree rectocele and cystocele. I had no symptoms except for what I refer to as "rectal pressure". After a couple months of feeling the pressure, my body got used to the feeling and it no longer bothered me.
During the pregnancy all was well but now that I am 2w PP, I have noticed my cystocele amd rectocele have gotten worse, as well as now having my cervix about 1.5 inches from the opening of my vagina. (I believe it was mildly prolapsed before but not like this)
My question is, what are the chances it could get better in the coming months? Also, what chance do I have at relief after seeing a physical therapist for pelvic floor dysfunction? I have some money saved for emergencies and am thinking of using it towards physical therapy if it will help me. Also, when is it safe to begin PT after a c section?
This issue has me very depressed and feeling like I will only get worse and worse and my life will be ruined. I have anxiety as well.

Brief Answer:
Physiotherapy is helpful in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
Rectocele and cystocele are common after multiple pregnancies and deliveries.
In your case I would suggest you to go for PT first to repair your prolapse.
Initially you should start with simple exercises( as advise by your physiotherapist) to avoid pressure on stitches site at least for 6 weeks.
No heavy exercises till 4-6 months.
You can start with pelvic floor muscles exercises now also,it will strengthen your abdominal muscles as well (but under supervision of your trainer.)
But if symptoms does not improve than we have to go for surgery but in cases of prolapse PT plays a very important role.
You should take care of propose during urination and defecation and take proper precautions to avoid ulcer.
Do not take so much stress about it.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck.
Regards
