Does My PET Scan Report Indiate Pneumonia Infection?
Question: this should be my final question. it is important to me . taken from the PET scan: there are lesions in the chest as follows: 1) 3.6 x 2.5 cm left posterior high mass on image 71 with XXXXXXX FDG 13 SUV.2)additional small left posterior nodes, XXXXXXX 1.3 x1.3 cm on image 77 with XXXXXXX FDG 7 SUV, 3) 4.5 x 1.3 cm medial left lower lobe airspace opacity on image 79 with XXXXXXX FDG 4.6 SUV. right lung clear. IMPRESSION; left hilar and infrahilar masses most likely lymph node metastatic disease. the primary tumor may be in area of consolidation in the medial left lower lobe or may be contiguous with one of hilar metastases. 2) no evidence of distance metastatic disease. I just want to make sure you have all my info. are these still small and is it possible the tumor in the left lower lobe be pneumonia or is it most likely metastases? this should be my final question an please answer ASAP as I am visiting some doctors this evening.

This is not a pneumonia changes. Most likely you have lower left lobe tumor. It seems to be primary lesion. Other described lumps can be metastatic from this tumor.
Please consult thoracic surgeon. The lump should be removed and send for histopathology to either confirm or rule out the cancer.

does this seem to be caught early enough. I had my 1st cat scan on 9/3/13 and 9 months later had another scan o 6/10/13 is when this showed up and no evidence of distant metastatic disease by the Pet scan. I understand the lower lump should be removed and tested. what about the upper hilar and the smaller infrahilar node? thanks

It seems to be diagnosed early. But every tumor has different growing speed and ability to give mets so it is hard to tell for sure.
The other lumps should be removed as well-that would be great. However it is sometimes very hard due to location. Surgeons should decide about it during the surgery.

the pet scan by the radiologist said no evidence of distant metastatic disease. isn't that a positive issue that it has not spread. as I stated the right lung was clear. thanks, doctor

I assume you are an oncologist. so I am getting your opinion. I had a cat scanon9/3/13 and everything was fine. om6/10/14 is when there was a change. I took a PET scan and the following showed up. CHEST: 1) 3.6 x 2.5 cm on left posterior hilar mass on image 77 with XXXXXXX FDG 13 SUV. 2) additional small left posteriorbinfrahilar nodes, XXXXXXX 1.3 x 1.3 on image XXXXXXX FDG 7 SUV. 3) 4.5 x 1.3 cm medial left lower lobe airspace opacity on image 79 with XXXXXXX FDG 4,6 SUV. I have been told this is caught in an early stage and do you have your opinion by what I described to you I am trying to understand all of this!!

PET scan is a test which localizes areas of increased metabolic activity. Cancer cells are always the most active cells. That is why PET is able to detect small lesions.
You can not compare PET to CT. CT is less accurate and the small tumors could be present when CT was done, just too small to see them in CT.
PET can not replace histopathology report. As long as the tumors wont be removed and tested, nothing is certain. PET gives only a suspicion.
In your PET scan report it clearly says that there are local lymph nodes metastases(a suspicion of metastases). So this is not very early. We can say about early diagnosis if the single tumor is detected in the time when there is no mets at all.
