Question: Hi. So for the past year and a half ive been struggling with vertigo and balance issues and post concussive symptoms do to a whiplash injury. My new physical therapist has helped alot as shes been working on trigger points in my neck which has made the vertigo decrease when i turn my head. But for the past few days i feel worse when i turn my head. Also today i went to open the door and someone walked in and my arm went back on my left side and my neck on the left side got very stiff and now the vertigo feels worse. Im sure this will pass and this wouldnt cause whiplash correct? Also, do you think physical therapy and vestibular therapy eventually will relieve my symptoms? Will i have a chance to get better?

Brief Answer:
Discuss with your Doctor about medications too.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

In my opinion, those arm and neck movements didn't cause whiplash, more probably it was a cervical muscles strain that caused you to feel worse.

Gentle (not aggressive) physical therapy together with vestibular therapy are among treatment modalities about cervicogenic vertigo and dizziness.

Use of drugs such muscle relaxers (baclofen, Tinazidine), antidepressants (venlafaxine), botulinum toxin injections are indicated in treatment of cases like yours.

In rare cases, neck stabilization surgery is used too.

With proper measures and treatment, your condition certainly will improve further.

You should discuss with your Doctor about prescription of drugs, in addition to physical therapy.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
It is a temporary damage.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Most likely there was a muscle strain and this is not a permanent condition or damage.

So, it should subside in a few days.

Hope this helps.

Greetings.
