default
Posted on Thu, 9 Oct 2014
Question: I am a 68 yr. old male diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 with a PSA of 12 and a XXXXXXX score of 7. I had two tumors close to the margin of the prostate. I underwent Combination Therapy : 5 weeks EBRT and Brachytherapy ( 100 iodine seeds ). I was prescribed Finasteride 5mg. once daily and Tamsulosin 0.4 mg. twice daily and continue these from 2009 to date In addition, I take Losartan Potassium 100mg. ( cosaar) once daily for hypertension. I have experienced Erectile Dysfunction E.D. since radiation. I have tried Sidenafil Citrate 5mg. and Tadalafil 20mg. , also, a vacuum pump with VERY, VERY LIMITED success; sometimes no response and occasionally a little, not enough for penetration and no orgasms. QUESTION: can any of the medications or combinations of them cause E.D. Thank you XXXX

Brief Answer:
Due to side effect of radiation and Fenesteride

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been diagnosed to have Cancer of Prostate and had undergone radiation and Brachy therapy for same and have been taking Fenesteride since 2009.and since then facing problem of erectile dysfunction .

This is due to combined side effect of radiation and Fenesteride which normally do not respond to drugs like Sildenafil or Tadalafil .One gets improvement in ED within 2-3 weeks after you stop taking Fenesteride .

Please stop taking Fenesteride and observe for any improvement in your symptoms. If problem persists consult qualified XXXXXXX and get colour Doppler Ultrasound Scanning of Penis done to trace out whether your ED is either due to arterial insufficiency or venous leak .

If confirmed you may need to undergo surgery and put penile prosthesis ( Implant ) to have enjoyable sex and to satisfy your partner.

Hope I have answered your query. Please feel free to write if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards .
