Brief Answer:
Combined pill, diet control and exercise make period regular.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

PCOS is the MOST common endocrine system disorder among reproductive age group women. As you are NOT over weight, some other factors may be associated like stress or anxiety, emotional upset, hormonal imbalance including thyroid disturbance, irregular eating habit, high prolactin etc.

In this case, I suggest you to undergo several FRESH investigations like pelvic ultrasound scan (USG) to check status of the ovarian cyst, complete hormone assay (LH / FSH level, blood estrogen & progesterone levels), thyroid profile, blood sugar & prolactin level, Blood testosterone & DHEAS level, Hb% etc.

MEDICAL TREATMENT: It is useful to treat symptoms of PCOS with regularization of period. Generally, small cyst DOESN'T need any surgical treatment.

Combined hormonal pill (like KRIMSON-35 etc) is the MAINSTAY of treatment to alleviate PCOS symptoms. Diet control (low carbohydrate) and regular exercise are ESSENTIAL part of treatment protocol.

I suggest you to consult with gynecologist for guidance of above mentioned FRESH tests and procure complete prescription.

The following MEASURES are quite useful to maintain for healthy life style and regularize period:

1) Take healthy LOW CARBOHYDRATE diet with green vegetables and IRON supplement.

2) Complete avoidance of Salty/ Fatty/ Junk food stuffs associated with high calorie. Calorie intake should be limited.

3) Try to avoid mental stress and anxiety by regular Yoga/ Meditation or breathing exercise (20-30 minutes).

4) Control body weight by regular moderate physical exercise. It has GREAT role in regularization of monthly period.

5) Keep bowel habit regular, drink more water and always take a sound sleep with complete relaxation.

6) You should use water based lubricant during sexual intercourse for smooth sex life (PCOS doesn't cause painful sex). Maintain genital hygiene properly each time before and after sex.

Hope, above information is very much helpful & understandable to you. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish your good health and take care yourself.

Brief Answer:
Combined hormonal pill is the best choice.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

You are newly married and period is quite irregular. Therefore, condom alone is NOT the best choice of contraceptive method.

I suggest you to take combined hormonal pill (like FEMILON etc) from D1 of your menstrual cycle and continue for 21 days with 7 days gap. It is more effective and contraceptive of choice for new couple.

It will give highest protection (more than 99.9%) after 1-month used and you will get regular monthly period. During first 1-month, your partner should use condom as back up method.

Emergency pill is NOT advised as it will make your period more IRREGULAR.

Hope, I have answered your query. Kindly, close the discussion.

All the best and good luck.

Regards,
Dr S Patra
