Question: What does it mean when you have hallucinations of people talking to you about what your are doing, actually advising you on what you are doing, and they are so real feeling that when you go to answer them and they fade away, is when you realize they are not real?

I can understand your concern. Hallucinations are nothing but perception without stimulus. These false perceptions appears as real as true perception. You have symptoms that people are talking to you about what you are doing, advising you what you are doing and these could be occurring due to command auditory hallucinations. Though to make proper diagnosis proper evaluation is needed still it appears that these are true hallucinations. When you go to answer them they fade away and this could also occur in hallucinations.
Hallucinations in an individuals are main symptoms of some psychotic pathology. They occur in psychosis especially in Schizophrenia but you are 63 and it is not very common to develop Schizophrenia at your age. Hallucinations can also occur due to some side effects of drugs or can also occur in cannabis or LSD use. Hallucinations can occur due to some organic cause and some times in severe depression one can see hallucinations. Please visit a psychiatrist and take proper opinion for your symptoms.
