Does Usage Of Clotrimazole And Betamethasone Cream Help In Curing A Groin Infection?

This is what I asked:
I have had a mild case of jock itch for too long over the past 6 months and I have been avoiding to see a doctor. I have tried Tinactin and other sprays with little long term success. I have been pretty good about good hygiene. If I go to a doctor what will they most likely do? Will they give me a medication to kill the possible infection? I don't have any visible redness or anything. It gets annoying almost everyday for a little bit. The area is right between my scrotum and inner thigh and is in other closeby areas.

Brief Answer:
Start with oral and topical antifungals
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I have gone through your complaints and according to me you should start with oral and topical antifungals as they will lead to permanent cure.
These will kill the ringworm causing fungi.
If I were your treating doctor I would recommend you to take tablet terbinafine 250 mg once daily in the morning along with application of sertaconazole cream on the affected areas twice daily. For itching take antihistaminics like tablet levocetrizine 5 mg once daily at bed time.
These are prescription medicines and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.
Besides this keep the area dry, avoid sharing soap and towel, wear cotton underwear and stay in cool environment.
I hope to have answered your queries.

Followup question:
I just visited my doctor and he examined me and due to not seeing any redness/swelling or visual signs of infection he did not prescribe any oral drugs. He only prescribed clotrimazole betamethasone. I was a little bummed because I want to get rid of this occasional itching irritation and felt I need an antibiotic. I was also bummed because I feel it's almost the same thing as Pro-Ex cream I have used before, having the same ingredient: clotrimazole 1%. Is this prescribed cream much better than the over the counter Pro-Ex? And should he have prescribed an oral antifungal drug?
Prescribed cream better than pro-ex cream
Detailed Answer:
Yes this prescribed cream is better than your Pro-Ex cream as it contains 2 ingredients: clotrimazole and betamethasone. Clotrimazole is antifungal while betamethasone will take care of your itching and irritation. You will notice improvement with this.
He hasn't prescribed you oral antifungals because he could not see any visible signs. In mild cases doctors sometimes want to treat with topical medicines only. That's why he hasn't prescribed you any oral antifungal.
I would like to ask you that how did you arrive at the diagnosis of jock itch? Did you see any doctor for making the diagnosis?
If the itching is severe you can take antihistaminic like tablet chlorpheniramine 4 mg once or twice daily depending on the intensity of itching. It will be available as over the counter in your country.
