Does Usage Of Neti Pot Make Labyrinthitis Worse?
Question: Hello Doctor,
Will use of a neti pot make labyrinthitis worse?
The reason I'm asking is that I was initially misdiagnosed as having an middle ear infection and was told to use a neti pot. Then l went to an ENT specialist days later and was properly diagnosed with labyrinthitis. By that time, I was completely deaf in that ear, and my hearing has never come back. This happened years ago, but it crossed my mind today that maybe the neti pot possibly made it worse than it otherwise would have been. FYI, the ENT Doctor said she would not have done anything to treat the labyrinthitis anyway, as the latest research claims there is no proof that steroid treatment is effective.
Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
No, use of a netipot will not make a labyrinthitis worse.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. No, use of a netipot would not have made the labyrinthitis worse.
2. Labyrinthitis includes damage to the hearing and balance system. Did you have dizziness at that time?
3. Depending upon the suspected cause/s, treatment is an option in the initial weeks following the labyrinthitis, even though, as you have rightly mentioned that the outcome is not predictable.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
