Gallstone Pain, Excessive Thirst, Drowsiness. Do Not Have Gallbladder. What Could It Be?
I have cerebral palsy and a urostomy
and a lot of utis
Thank you for the query.
Please provide some more details about your pain:
- where is the pain located
- is it caused by a food, any specific food like spicy or fatty
- does the pain radiates to the back
- is the pain localized in one spot
- is it present all the time
- what kind of tests have been done
It is very common that the pain caused by gallstones and pain due to peptic ulcers (or stomach inflammation) give similar symptoms. And some part of patients after gallbladder removal still has the same pain. Its because lots of people do have gallstones and only some part of them will have symptoms caused by gallstones.
Stomach pain (caused by peptic ulcer or other disease) is usually located in the upper middle abdomen, appears 1-2 hours after a meal. Nausea and vomiting can be also present. And it is very characteristic for stomach diseases that all tests (abdominal ultrasound, blood work) are negative. In such case, gastroscopy is necessary. During this test, whole stomach and dueodenum will be checked. Also Helicobacter Pylori (a bacteria responsible for stomach issues) infection will be checked.
If the pain you have is in the upper right abdomen and radiates to the back, you may have a stone in bile ducts. In such case, symptoms are almost same as gallstones symptoms. You may also notice whitish stool and dark urine in case of bile ducts stones.
Your thirstiness and drowsiness can be caused by uti. In this condition, usually there is increased urine production and increased urine excretion. This can lead to dehydration. So increased mineral water intake should be helpful.
Other possible reason of thirstiness and recurring utis is increased blood sugar level (diabetes). Sugar in the urine allows bacteria to grow freely. Increased sugar in the blood forces your body to produce more urine and that way get rid of the sugar. And it leads to dehydration as well.
Some other reasons of thirstiness like Diabetes insipidus due to increased secretion of vasopressin should be also considered if previous theories will be wrong. For this condition, very characteristic is ample amount of urine excreted.
So in conclusion, you should have gastroscopy performed, urine analysis, urine culture test, blood work, blood sugar level checked.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
