Brief Answer:
Avoid meat and alcohol.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The
pain in the ankle and the mild fluid that has been detected on MRI is due to the inflammation caused by the raised uric acid levels. You have been given the right medicine -
Zyloric to bring the uric acid levels to normal. This is a well tolerated medicine with minimal side effects like mild gastric acidity, headache,
nausea, etc.
Raised uric acid can happen due to decreased excretion of urates by kidney, dietary changes or due to genetic predisposition.
It is associated with consumption of alcohol, seafood and meat.
Taking a diet rich in
vitamin C, dairy products and coffee is likely to help in improvement of symptoms.
Drink plenty of water daily to help the kidneys clear the uric acid. Reducing meat intake will also help.
Let me reassure you that the pain will subside in 4- 6 weeks with adequate rest, hot fomentation, local
analgesic gel like volini gel and the medicines given.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
Dr. Praveen Tayal.
