Having Burping Problem And Stomach Discomfort. What Should I Do?

Thank you for contacting XXXXXXX with your quiery.
Belching and burping is certainly one of the symtoms of
GERD (Gastro esophageal reflux disease). There could also
be associated heartburn , or upper abdominal pain present.
People can also have night time coughing , sore throat and
even worsening of asthma if someone has it. There are lots
of other symptoms including sleeplessness , weight gain etc.
Long term problems may include difficulty swallowing due
to blockage from scar tissue at the junction of the stomach
and esophagus.
Gas bloat is another issue. Most of the gas is produced by
swallowed air whenever we eat or drink. The other source
is the digestive process during which gas is produced due
to fermentation. People who hurry through eating and also
who drink fluids during the meal have more gas.
People with lactose intolerance can't digest lactose and this
produces excess gas. People who chew gum containing
sorbitol can also have more gas.
Pantoprazole is a good PPI (Proton pump inhibitor) and effective
in acid control upto 80-90% . It should be taken 60-90 minutes
before your main meal in the morning. Some need it twice a day.
Lesuride is more for relief of anxiety etc.
There are aslo vegetables that cause more gas. Cabbage family
can give more gas. Legumes (Beans,Urad and Chana dal ) tend to
give more gas.
If you can find peppermint oil capsules , taking this two or three
times a day with food will help. Simethacone can help reduce the
effects of gas discomfort.
There is also a product called "Beano" taken before using lentils etc.
can cut down gas.
Hope this gives you some information that you can use.
I wish you the very best.
