History Of Polyps Throughout GI Tract, Precancerous. Had Endoscopy And Colonoscopy Done. Lynch Syndrome. What Is The Future Course Of Treatment?
Question: My sister, age 48, is a black female with a history of polyps throughout her GI tract. 3 removed from her colon, 1 from the duodenum and through a capsule study and later scope that discovered them, 2 were removed from the jejunum about 1.5 years ago. Some were described as precancerous. Recently, she had an Upper Endoscopy and Colonoscopy showing at least 2 colon polyps and a prickly pear looking duodenal polyp that was dysplastic. The GI doctor referred her out, did not remove the colon polyps, nor biopsy them. We are worried sick about her future prognosis. they are mentioning FPA and Lynch syndrome. What can she do? What should she do? What should she worry about?

First thing is she may have familial tendency to be having polyps.
She should get biopsy of her polyps to see the nature of polyps, if they are benign and having no tendency to be having malignant potential, then there is need to worry.
But if polyps are found to be having malignant potential, it is a point of caution.
She should first get biopsy as early as possible.
Annual colonoscopy is considered in such patients as a screening procedure.
