Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Management of ADHD can be on several levels. It consists on lifestyle measures, psychotherapy and medication.

By lifestyle measures is meant trying to create an organized environment. For that trying to created a daily schedule is important, reinforcing it with boards in his room and kitchen. Organizing items like clothing, toys etc, keeping everything in appropriate places. It is important to give the child clear and precise instructions to follow as well as giving him praise or even small rewards when following the rules. Support groups as well as training provided by mental healthcare professionals can help the parents in being able to create the best environment.

Usually on top of that psychotherapy is also needed for the child, consisting in behavioral psychotherapy which aims to learn the child to monitor and modify his behavior, enabling him to be more organized and overcome emotional obstacles.

When such conservative means are not enough medication may be necessary. Most widely used are stimulants like methylphenidate. Other alternatives may include atomoxetine, bupropion or clonidine. Antidepressants are used in some cases.

It is important for the diagnosis and management plan to be made by someone experienced in ADHD, usually licensed specialists in the field include psychiatrists, pediatricians and psychologists.

I remain at your disposal for other questions.
