How Can Prasugrel Help A Patient Recovering From Heart Attack?
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I understand your concern and would explain that prasugrel is a anti-platelet agent, whose main indication is in combination with aspirin before in patients with acute coronary syndrome managed by means of percutaneous coronary intervention, who have either unstable angina or non-ST-elevation myocardial infart or ST-elevation myocardial infarct when managed with primary or delayed percutaneous coronary intervention.
Its main effect in the reduction of thrombotic cardiovascular events including stent thrombosis. So, its main indication is for short term therapy.
Anyway its chronic use has shown a higher risk for gastro intestinal bleeding and an increase in the risk for future strokes (especially in patients with a history of transient ischemic attack or stroke). But the benefits from the chronic have not been clearly established, based on the clinical data.
So, I would not recommend taking prasugrel for a long term therapy.
Instead I would recommend therapy with aspirin or clopidogrel, which are anti-platelet agents, preferred for a long term therapy in the prevention of possible stent complications (like obstruction).
Hope to have been helpful!
