49 Yrs Old Male Has Post-stent Symptoms

male 49 yrs old, had angio plasty and stent placed in RCA two days ago, prior to procedure artery was 99% blocked, after doc said that it was wide open and flowing well. Yesterday and off and on today, can feel clicking and slight twinges in heart area. Is this normal ? Could the stent be settling in?

If you remember the sort of chest discomfort you had before the procedure, you can try and compare it with the situation now. Most probably, the character of the pain will be different. What you are having now is probably musculoskeletal pain. It is also possible that you are overly sensitive to any pain in that region. At the same time, it is good to be cautious and report this to your treating doctor. An ECG during the episode of pain will be most useful. Very, very rarely, blood clotting can occur at the same place where the stent was implanted and cause re-blockage (stent thrombosis). The pain however would resemble that of a severe heart attack. Depending on the type of stent used, restenosis can occur in 5% -15% of patients over 6months to 1year. This can produce a recurrence of chest discomfort with exertion.
