Have Breathlessness. Had NSTEMI And Taking Ticagrelor. Have Hypotensives. Can This Because Of Ticagrelor?
I had an NSTEMI last August (troponin 0.34, treated with a PCTA thrombectomy) and am taking ticagrelor (Brilanta) 180mg daily. I've been feeling breathless for the past couple of weeks, no chest pain. It seems ticagrelor has dyspnea as a side effect; since I only have about 9 weeks to go for the 1 year course of ticagrelor can I stop taking it now or should I just put up with it and last the course? I'm also on hypotensives (amlodipine, ramipril and bisoprolol), asprin and fenofibrate.
Hello Ticagrelor is antiplatelet agent it does not cause breathlessness per se. It actually prevent stent thrombosis (blockage of stent) It is strongly advised not to stop antiplatelet without concerned cardiologist's affirmation. Usually two antiplatelet (aspirin + 1 more eg Ticagrelor,Clopidogrel) agents are given for one year post PTCA, thereafter lifelong one platelet agent is required if there is no bleeding complication. For understand your problem more clearly echocardiography should be done As you are on three antihypertensive check your blood pressure frequently to adjust the doses and drug. I tried to resolve query, might helpful to you Take care
