How Can A Blood Clot In The Calf Be Treated?

Question: My husband was recently dc with a blood clot in his rt calf. He was prescribed Lovenox pc inj bid which he started yesterday. He also has plantar fasciitis in his lift foot, and is having a lot of pain in the ankle and bottom of his foot. I've tried ice, elevation, compression of sock support. What can I give him for pain. I am an RN and know contraindications for as a, and nsaids.
Can I give him (1) tyl#3 tab? We have been up all night trying to get him comfortable to no avail. Help?

Extravasated blood is a tissue irritant and therefore causes pain. Tylenol (acetaminophen) 500 mg two tablets together can be given when needed for pain relief. But pain relief may still not be adequate. The blood is likely to take about a week to be resorbed and he will have to bear with it till then. Hot compress may help.
